About

It started with rocks.

Long before Watson, generative AI, or autonomous agents, I was extracting intelligence from aerial imagery to understand our planet.

Sherry Comes

Where I am now

Board Director, AI Operator, Venture Builder and Inventor.

I’ve built new AI businesses and platforms from nothing inside global organizations, so when a program has stalled I can usually tell you which version of the problem you actually have in weeks rather than quarters.

How I work

Think big. Start small. Scale quickly.I pursue bold ideas, test them in practical ways, and scale what works.
Apply systems thinking.I examine how people, communities, technology, and the environment connect and consider the broader consequences of what I build.
Build what comes next.I turn foresight into action through real-world solutions and ventures that help people and our planet thrive.

How I got here

From infrastructure to intelligence, I’ve worked across the stack.

My grandfather was an inventor. My father was a nuclear physicist. I grew up around people who took things apart to find out how they worked.

So I came at it from the physical world. A scholarship from the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, then photogrammetry-based mapping for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The relational database behind the satellite archive at CIRES. Science computing at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, on Cray and UNIX.

The work changed, but the pattern did not: observe the world, capture the data, and turn it into insight.

Twenty-five years later it’s still the pattern I see in every emerging technology. The pattern has not changed
Data was the commodity, digital insight was the true asset. Ginni Rometty, Chief Executive Officer, IBM

Then I went inside the machine.

Across every stage of my career, the discipline has stayed the same: ground the system in reality, then prove it works. The platforms changed from aerial surveys and relational databases to Watson and agentic AI. The question never did.

Fault-tolerant UNIX at Tandem Computers, the systems banks aren’t allowed to let stop. Semiconductors at AMD. Then data center operations at U S West, across fourteen states.

The artificial intelligence budget is my own money and the governance board is me. The operating lab

In 1995 I started Majordomo's, and it has been running ever since. CoffeeCakes.com, which I founded, became an Internet Retailer Top 500 company and was written up by The Wall Street Journal. It still sells on Shopify, Amazon and Walmart.

Sixteen years at IBM: building, innovating, and leading at scale.

Named an IBM Distinguished Engineer, fewer than one percent of the company, and Chair of the IBM Academy of Technology. Eight patents, one pending. I lobbied the United States Congress on cognitive computing policy and worked across Mexico, South Africa, Turkey, the UAE and Brazil.

At Genpact I built the cognitive practice from nothing and shipped the Neural Intelligence Platform and Neural Chat, co-developed with Google. It won the 2016 Global Excellence Award.

At Deloitte I built the applied and conversational AI practice from zero into a $200 million-plus revenue engine on five million of capital, scaled to roughly 2,000 professionals. One Fortune 10 contact center program returned $36 million in the first year.

I was chief information officer on a billion-dollar banking transformation in Mexico City. IBM, Banorte
And the first to commercially operationalize Watson in Africa. IBM, healthcare

The future is the autonomous enterprise: intelligent agents, physical AI, quantum, and advanced automation operating with increasing levels of human-like autonomy.

At PwC, applied AI and emerging technology, including a sixteen-country hackathon. I helped build North America AI strategy and contributed an AI maturity model, the Forward Deployed Engineers model and a new AI UX Architect role.

I co-authored Generative AI in Healthcare, contributed to Age of Invisible Machines, and have been featured in Forbes.

I take board director seats. Public, private and nonprofit. I am an Advisory Board Member, Women in AI Leadership at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, and on the advisory board for Zschool’s executive education programs.

I co-founded the Frontier Institute for Applied Futures with Lisa Katz, who is Co-Founder and Chief Research & Impact Officer, and Katie Lisowski, who is Co-Founder and Chief Programs & Partnerships Officer. It works at the intersection of human experience, a climate-forward future and emerging technology, and it runs Horizon2044.org: designing today for the first truly AI-native generation.

DocTA

Deloitte Omnichannel Triage Assistant. Document intelligence, built inside the applied AI practice.

Deloitte

AI Maturity Model

A way to read how far along an organization actually is, rather than how much technology it has bought.

PwC

OpenAI Brain Architecture

Patent pending, 2026.

PwC

AI Experience Architect

My term for the person who owns the design of the entire AI-enabled experience: how humans, AI agents, data, systems, channels and employees work together as one intelligent, end-to-end experience. Not merely the chatbot, the interface, the model or the technical architecture.

PwC

Watson in Africa

The first commercial operationalization of IBM's cognitive systems on the continent, in healthcare.

IBM

Forward Deployed Engineers

An operating model for putting engineers where the problem actually is.
